First Music Lesson

First Music Lesson

What is music?

  • Sound!
Music is sound.

WALT: Turning sound into music.
The first thing that we need to look at:
  • Beat
A beat is a steady pulse.
  • Rhythm
A rhythm is a pattern of sound.
We compared the rhythm of our heartbeats. When it beats steadily, fast and slow.

Games we played:
  • Pass the beat around.
It was important to ensure that this was done in time.
Aim: To keep the beat going.

  • The Danger Pattern
Aim: To repeat beat back except when a danger pattern is involved.

Taekwondo

Our First Taekwondo Class

Room 5 had their first lesson on Teakwondo today. We learnt that Taekwondo is a form of self defence martial art that was invented by a General in the Korean Army during the 1950's. The General already had a black belt in the martial art Karate at the time that he invented Taekwondo.
As well as self defence Taekwondo also teaches you:
*Respect
*Courtesy
*Humility
*Courage
*Patience
 *Self-control
 *Responsibility
Today we learnt about punch switches, distraction and defending ourselves when someone grabs us by our wrist.

Orientation Week

Getting To Know Each Other

As part of Room 5's first week at school we have been trying to get to know each other a little better. One of the things that helped was the class creating and then sharing their 'All About Me' posters. Students were encouraged to share a variety of  interesting facts about themselves with the rest of the class. We also used these to play our own version of 'Guess Who.' To do this we read out the facts on the poster and the class tried to guess whose it was based on the information. This was a lot of fun and a good way to get to know each other a little better.

Check out some of the students sharing their work below.
